Welcome to Waiheke Dreams ~ Waiheke Island Luxury Accommodation

Our Waiheke story ... (Rome was not built in a day)

Nestled on the crest of the ridge at Oneroa, Waiheke Island, the old Bach (1930s) had extensive wrap-around views over the Hauraki Gulf and back to Auckland City. Dawn realized that flying solo for the first time she needed the right team and so Architect (Rex Little) and Interior Designer (daughter Denise), fitted the criteria.

Dawn had been going to Waiheke since a child in the 50s and wanted the chance for her family and friends to experience the wonder of this special island.

Dawn knew exactly what she wanted as a long-held dream was about to be fulfilled. Contemporary, low maintenance, and funky with two distinct areas so when family and friends came, they could all have their own privacy, yet still be together for socializing.

As Dawn was approaching retirement, she realised the property could also provide her with holiday rental accommodation and consequently the re-born 'Bach' (who needs a hotel) was transformed into View43 and CityLights. View43 is a two-bedroom apartment with a large double bedroom featuring a queen bed, a second bedroom with two single beds and a spacious kitchen/living/dining area with a large patio and decks to capture the sunrise and sunsets. CityLights is a one-bedroom apartment with an open-plan living/dining area and private patio overlooking the city. A large carpeted spacious service area joins these two contemporary apartments.

In April 2001 the construction boom was in full force. First the old Bach had to go after many attempts of trying to sell it. Dawn even offered it to the local Fire Brigade as practice material which they turned down. Finally she offered it FREE for removal and it was gone almost overnight. (To this day it remains on the Island and is still looking good). Dawn imported her builders from Auckland and although this was not the wisest decision she has ever made, we move on. In contrast, the local trades-people were wonderful, going the extra mile on some nights in the dark so Dawn could go home back to Auckland smiling.

Denise came on board with Dawn as the interior concept took shape and very subtle colours were chosen for relaxation and harmony as they wanted the views to work and they did. A mixture of practicality and style guided the look in the bathroom and kitchen. Dawn loved the idea of a retro look as over the years this dream had been forming. Dawn had acquired, let us say, many pieces of trash or treasure? - 70s mahogany furniture, formica tables and wrought iron pieces that she was keen to revamp - the results were amazing - reupholstering, refinishing the wood, and powder-coating the wrought iron.

The duo then sourced the finishing touches "cushions are like putting pearls with a black dress" was Denise's comment, and right she was. Of course they needed double of everything.

The gas fire complimented View43 as did the private hot outdoor shower. The landscaping took on a contemporary flavour continuing the lime and orange accents with aloes, agaves, gazanias, and bird-of-paradise. Dawn's dream of View43 and CityLights was completed in November 2001 with a sigh of a job well done. Thanks to all concerned.
